Hello everyone.
Just a casual reminder that our backscatter has launched. We’re at $1,090 of our $12,000 goal. That’s 9% of our goal!
I’d also like to announce that the first 100 backers to pledge $45+ will receive a custom guro caricature of themselves with the book! So if you weren’t already super interested in an amazing collection of horrific, gurotastic illustrations and comics that our talented artists poured their hearts and souls into then here’s a little more incentive. So pledge quick and make the first hundred so you may have your very own, personally drawn portrait of you (or a friend) experiencing a horror of your choice—or should you choose to be surprised, a horror or affliction chosen by the artist!
When the goal is made we’ll need a reference of the person who’ll be drawn for the portrait. See the images above for examples of the sketch that’ll be done.
As of now 13 of the 100 slots are already filled.
Even if you can’t pledge, sharing the project is JUST as important and JUST as appreciated.

HELLO EVERYONE. GUESS WHAT.

Our kickstarter has launched.

We’ve got some killer artwork, created by killer artists whose work will thrill (but not kill) you. We’ve got a goal of $12,000.

The book itself not only features dozens of illustrations, but several comic shorts by our talented artists—as well as a personal bio pages with illustrated portraits! In total there are 148 pages of art work. The illustrations will all be printed in color on a coated, heavy weight matte paper. The book will be 8.5 x 11 and perfect bound with a gloss varnished soft cover. All this from 32 amazing artists.

So please check out our project. So please check out our project. If you like gore, horror, the weird or the unusual, we would be grateful for your support!

We have until Sat, Jun 6 2014 1:54 AM EDT to make our goal.

How about an art post? I’m sans a scanner, so I took the pictures on my phone. They were made for a friend’s Creature Feature show a few months ago.

Earthbound fan art I doodled on Nintendo Miiverse. (Sorry about the repeat post of that Ness. He goes with the others! haha) Click on them for better quality. Tumblr hates these.

Hopefully I’ll be set up soon to get posting regular work again. : X

HEY GUYS IMPORTANT NOTICE
I wasn’t going to post until tomorrow, but decided today might be best. As of now we have nineteen accepted artists out of the 25.
If you want to apply, send your applications in asap so you have a chance. Kate and I will wait for another big chunk of applications before selecting the final six.
We have been queuing accepted artist announcement posts to be once a day. We have yet to receive some responses, but it’s only been a day. But please check your email if you’ve applied! If you applied and didn’t get an email yet, that means we’ve cut you off to be apart of the second batch of applications (so no worries).
We’re also working out a release form for artists under 18, since one or two applied.
- Ash

Wanted to add the link to the application guidelines, etc. in case anyone hadn’t seen it. We’re looking forward to seeing more of your work!!

More thoughts as I’m getting more excited for the anthology: But man this is going to be a good excuse to encourage myself to publicly make more horrible art. <3

Also, I’ll probably be getting back on the horse with my work soon. I haven’t had a lot of free time, and have been pretty down about my work, but things are starting to clear up, so I’ll find a way to share what I’ve been doing soon!

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS!
This is an open call to artists for participation in a guro/gore/body horror/general horror themed anthology.
We are looking for artists interested in making comics (4-10 pages), or stand-alone illustrations (1-3 single page). All works must be in COLOR. Submitted pieces must fit within the theme of the book, but can be comedy, serious, abstract, etc. It doesn’t mater how you do it, as long as it fits. Submissions must be visual and any writers MUST be paired with an artist. All participating authors will receive a hardcover copy of the book and a PDF for personal printing and sales.

As far as expectations/traits we’re looking for in artists:
- Decent sense of anatomy; obviously stylized anatomy is good too.
- Original characters and creations are welcome, however fanart is not.
- Able to work in large enough dimensions for print
- Flexible & easy to work with; communication is important
- Nothing implying or involving rape or sexual assault
- Finished work for the anthology should not be posted until it’s published and being distributed
If interested please email us an “application” at vertebraeanthology@gmail.com.
Send Us:
- Your Name
- URL where you display your art
- General idea of what you want to make for the anthology. It’s okay to change things later.
- 1-2 Examples of past, similar work
- Contact info: E-mail, & any other ways we can get ahold of you.
- Quick summary about you
- Deadline: sept 20th or when we reach 25 artists, whichever comes first
Expected Timeline:
- Cut-off date for applications: September 20th, OR when we reach 25 artists, whichever comes first
- Kickstarter Sample Deadline: November 15th
- Check-in Date: December 15th
- Finished Artwork Due: January 31st
- Printing Date TBA

Should reblog this on my other blog as well, just in case. :B We also forgot to mention that artists keep all rights to their work in the anthology.

tanglefootcomic asked:

I sure hope you're still working on this, 'cause DANG but I really, really, really want to see it! ... Not really a 'query', I'll admit.

Yeah, I am absolutely still working on this! I’ve been really busy and my computer died on top of it, so posting progress online has kind of come to a temporary halt. But I’m drawing pages for a prologue script that I wrote and have been working on kind of a concept art bible for myself so that I can keep things like backgrounds and other sorts of world-building updated, consistent and in one place that doesn’t have me searching 40,000,000,000 sketchbooks for things like a floor plan I drew in 2006.

Off topic, I’m super excited that you have an art Tumblr so I can follow your work here. haha
